PC is a vitamin K dependent plasma glycoprotein.
In the presence of its cofactor, protein S, calcium and phospholipids, it exerts an anticoagulant activity by inactivating FVa and FVIIa.
It also promotes fibrinolysis (clot lysis) by inactivating PAI-1 - (plasminogen activator inhibitor -1)
